HOUSTON - A single-engine plane crashed Sunday during take-off, killing two children and the other two on board in the US state of New Mexico, officials said.

The crash occurred in the early afternoon at Angel Fire airport in northern New Mexico, said Lynn Lunsford, the spokesperson of US Federal Aviation Administration.

The cause of the crash was yet to be determined, but the site was experiencing heavy winds at the time of the accident, Lunsford was quoted by news website KOB.com as saying.

The plane was owned by a Texas company, according to the report.
