Strong earthquake jolts Myanmar's Mandalay region

YANGON - A strong earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar's northern Mandalay region Sunday morning, according to Nay Pyi Taw Hydrology and Meteorology Department.
The epicenter was determined at Tabaitgine, about 131 kilometers north of Mandalay city and 72 kilometers north of Shwebo township.
With a depth of 20 km, the quake happened at 07:40:37 am local time (01:10:37 GMT), the sources said.
So far, there is no immediate report of casualties and damages to properties.
Meanwhile, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a quake with 6.6-magnitude hit the region at 01:12:38 GMT with depth of 10 km. The USGS also reported two moderate quakes within 20 minutes following the strong quake, both with depths of 10.10 km.
