7.7-magnitude quake hits western Canada

WASHINGTON - An earthquake of 7.7 magnitude jolted Queen Charlotte Islands, Canada region at 03:04:10 GMT on Sunday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 17.5 km, was initially determined to be at 52.769 degrees north latitude and 131.927 degrees west longitude.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a tsunami at the moment.
However, Earthquake Canada said the tsunami warning was in effect for coastal areas for the northern tip of Vancouver Island and elsewhere in British Columbia, as well as Alaska.
There was no immediate reports of casualties or damage up to now.
USGS also reported the quake's epicenter to be 202 km southwest of Prince Rupert in Canada's British Columbia province, a coastal city 745 km north of Vancouver.
