Nigerian troops discover explosives in Kano

KANO, Nigeria - Nigerian troops in Kano State in the northwest of the West African country on Tuesday said 36 prepared improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were part of the recovery made by the security operatives during the capture of two members of the terrorist sect.

One of the sect members suspected to be the media coordinator was killed in a gun battle on Monday by a combined team of Department of State Security (DSS) personnel and the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in Kano.

Spokesperson of the JTF in Kano, Lieutenant Ikedichi Iweha, said the security operatives recovered two AK 47 rifles, two pump action rifles, one Berretta rifle, one smoke discharger.

Other items seized in the operation include 433 rounds of 7.62 Nato ammunition, 80 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, two AK 47 magazines, 13 laptops, two motorcycles, four printers, one photocopier, one 33 slots Zenith Disc writer, one TG 3900Ez generator set, religious nooks, large quantity of CD plates, two decoders.

Lieutenant Iweha said the latest encounter with the terrorist group foiled its planned attack to wreck havoc on the good people of Kano State.
