GUATEMALA CITY - Mexican President-elect Enrique Pena Nieto on Monday promised to build a stronger, closer relationship with Guatemala.
During a meeting with Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina here, Pena Nieto expressed his desire to strengthen trade ties between the two countries.
Perez Molina said Pena Nieto's visit is a proof of Mexico's commitment to improve relations with Guatemala and Central America.
Guatemala is the first stop of Pena Nieto's Latin America tour, which will also take him to Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru.
This is the first international trip of Pena Nieto after he won the July 1 elections. He will take office on December 1.
