TRIPOLI - The Libyan National Congress decided Wednesday to form a new government on September 8, the parliament's spokesman said.
Members of the National Congress officially decided at a meeting earlier Wednesday that September 8 will be the date to nominate ministers and form the new government, the National Congress Spokesman Omar Humaidan said at a press conference in the Libyan capital Tripoli.
The parliament members are currently discussing requirements on the nominees for the post of prime minister, such as they could not have foreign spouses and should be nominated by at least 20 National Congress members, Humaidan told reporters.
Wednesday's meeting also agreed that the country's future presidential elections must be fair and the candidates should have no records of corruption.
The National Congress, which was elected in early July, assumed the political authority from the National Transitional Council on August 8.
