MAPUTO - At least 12 people were killed and 13 others injured on Wednesday in a car accident in southern Mozambique.
The crash occurred in Gaza province along the national road No 1 linking the northern and southern regions of the southern African country.
One of the injured passengers told Radio Mozambique in Xai-Xai, the capital of Gaza province, that the driver of the passenger vehicle was to blame because he tried to overtake a vehicle in an area that he didn't have a proper visibility of the road. The vehicle collided with the heavy truck.
The provincial hospital chief, Isaias Ramiro said he mobilized all doctors from the province to provide support to the injured.
The transit police chief in Gaza province, Ananias Gujamo, said this is one of the worst accidents the province has registered lately. He appealed to all drivers to take precautions to avoid accidents.
