AMMAN - Foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) proposed Monday at a meeting in Saudi Arabia to suspend Syria from the body, Jordanian newspaper Addustour reported.
The top diplomats of OIC member states made the proposal at a preparatory meeting for an extra OIC summit scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday in Mecca.
Leaders of the 57-member OIC have been invited to attend the summit and are expected to discuss the proposal, the paper said on its website.
The OIC foreign ministers agreed on a draft resolution for the summit, which called on the United Nations Security Council to shoulder its responsibility to stop violence and bloody clashes in Syria, and to figure out a peaceful and long-term solution to the Syrian crisis, the paper said.
