9 killed, 33 injured in attacks in Iraq's Diyala

BAQUBA, Iraq - A total of nine people were killed and 33 others wounded on Monday in three car bombs and a roadside bomb attacks in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala, a provincial police source told Xinhua.

The deadliest attack occurred in the town of Bani Saad, some 40 km northeast of Baghdad, when twin car bombs detonated a medical center, killing five people and wounding 20 others, the source said on condition of anonymity.

In a separate incident, three people were killed and seven injured when a roadside bomb exploded near a minibus in the town of Hibhib, near the provincial capital city of Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, the source said.

Also in the province, a car bomb ripped through the city of Muqdadiyah, some 100 km northeast of Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding six others, the source added.

Muqdadiyah city was the scene of coordinated attacks earlier in the day when the source reportedly said that three motorcycle bombs went off almost simultaneously at three main streets in the city killing a total of four people and wounded 15 others.

The attacks came as part of a new wave of violence across the Iraqi cities that killed 41 people and wounded 123 others.
