Singers from 26 countries participated in this year's Eurovision song contest. Swedish singer Loreen won the contest with her song "Euphoria", while the Buranovo Grannies got the second place with their disco song "Party for Everybody" in both English and their local Udmurt language. Serbian singer Zeljko Joksimovic came third.

The final contest was broadcasted by Russian television Channel one. Some 23,000 people watched it at the Baku Crystal Hall.

Inaugurated in 1956, the Eurovision Contest has been held annually among member countries of the European Broadcasting Union. Each member country submits a song to be performed on live television and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition.

Azerbaijan won the right to host the contest after the victory of an Azeri singing group "Ell & Nikki" at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany.
