NEW DELHI - US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Sunday arrived in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata on a three-day visit to the country, sources said.
Secretary Clinton landed in the city on a special aircraft from the neighbouring country of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka this afternoon and was immediately whisked away to a hotel in south Kolkata amid tight security. She is to attend a cultural programme in the evening and visit the city's iconic Victoria Memorial built in memory of Queen Victoria of England, the sources said.
"She will address civil society representatives and then meet the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, on Monday morning at the state's administrative headquarters Writers' Buildings. Subsequently, she will fly over to the national capital where she is to hold meetings Tuesday with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister SM Krishna,"the sources said.
During her meeting with Indian leaders, the two countries would review strategic partnership and likely to discuss civil nuclear cooperation and regional security situation, the sources added.
