JOHANNESBURG - Two road accidents occurred in the central South Africa on Tuesday, leaving 122 people injured.

Early Tuesday morning, a crowded bus overturned near the small town of Rosendal in the central province of the Free State, injuring 72 people, police said, adding 10 of them were in critical condition and receiving the treatment in a hospital.

On the route near the small town of Fouriesburg in the same province, 50 farmers were injured in the day as the truck they were travelling in rolled, police said. Several of them sustained critical injuries.

During the Easter holiday from Friday to Sunday, more than 100 people were reportedly killed due to road accidents in the country.

In recent years, road crashes have become one of the biggest killers in South Africa. Ageing vehicles, bad roads, dim awareness of traffic safety and lax regulations are considered to be major contributors to road deaths.
