ISLAMABAD - At least 13 people were killed and three others injured in a US drone strike launched Friday in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of South Waziristan bordering Afghanistan, local media reported.
Local Urdu TV channel DAWN quoted local sources as saying that the strike came on Friday evening when US drones fired eight missiles at two targets in the Shaktoi Mandao area of South Waziristan, which is near the Afghan border.
Four missiles were fired at a vehicle, killing all the seven people on board, said the report, adding that another four missiles were fired at a house minutes later, killing six people and wounding three others.
The seven people killed in the vehicle could be militant members who left after attending a meeting in the house which was later targeted by the US drones, the report said.
Friday's US drone strike is the eighth of its kind (counted on a daily basis) in Pakistan in 2012. To date, at least 61 people have reportedly been killed and 14 others injured in such strikes since the beginning of this year.
