LONDON - British Prime Minister David Cameron called Russian president-elect Vladimir Putin on Monday and discussed further developing relations between the two countries.

Cameron said he is looking forward to working with Putin to "overcome the obstacles in the relationship between Britain and Russia and build deeper political and trade links," a statement from Downing Street said.

The coalition government has not publicly responded to the result of Russian election until late on Monday.
