TRIPOLI - Four people were injured Wednesday when armed factions exchanged gunfire in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, witnesses said.
The clash between fighters from the western city of Misrata and those from Tripoli occurred outside a security compound with bullets and grenades ripping through the streets.
One local resident said the two sides exchanged fire when the Misrata men were denied admission to the security compound.
Another witness said the clash erupted when the Misrata militants attempted to rescue some detainees from the building.
Though the civil war has ended in Libya for months, militiamen across the country have not yet been disarmed and demobilized, with some militia groups still stationed in the capital city.
