JERUSALEM, Aug 1 - Israeli troops opened fire across the border with Lebanon on Monday at a Lebanese soldier who shot at them, an Israeli military source said.

The source said army forces were working along the border when a Lebanese soldier opened fire on them. No Israeli soldiers were wounded and it was unclear whether the Lebanese soldier was hurt.

Israel fought a 34-day war with Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas in 2006.

The border has been mostly quiet since, but violence erupted

on May 15 this year when Israeli soldiers fired on Palestinian demonstrators who swarmed the Lebanese frontier. Seven civilians were killed, according to a United Nations report.
