Rajan the swimming elephant ready to retire

Rajan, 61, the world's last and only ocean swimming elephant spends time swimming in the sea with his 59-year-old mahout (elephant handler), Nazrool, on Havelock Island, which is part of the Andaman and Nicobar Island chain, India, May 21, 2011. Rajan is nearing a well-earned retirement. Celebrated the world over, the long-in-the-tusk three-ton bull elephant has almost reached the £37,000 ($59,562) target his owners need to pay back the loan they took out to buy his freedom. That was three years ago, and in the years since, Rajan has entertained and stunned photographers all willing to pay for the privilege of spending time with him in his underwater playground.[Photo/CFP]
