BEIJING - A senior diplomat of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPDR) has visited China to discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula, said a statement from Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

Kim Kye Gwan, the first vice-minister of the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, paid a working visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun, said the statement, without specifying the exact date.

Kim held talks separately with Zhang, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Wu Dawei, Chinese special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs.

"They had an in-depth exchange of views on China-DPRK relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula," said the statement.

The foreign ministry gave no further details about Kim's visit.
