The move came in the wake of intensive diplomatic activity on the part of the Libyan government, in an attempt to negotiate an agreement with the opposition.

Mabrouk Abdallah and Jomaa Ibrahim Ammar, both senior advisors of Libya's popular committee of external communication and international cooperation, headed to the island of Djerba before embarking on a plane bound for Mali's capital, Bamako.

According to the TAP, diplomats, businessmen and a delegation of journalists from Jordan, the UK and Australia also entered Tunisia from Libya. A number of injured Libyans onboard ambulances were transported to Tunisian hospitals and clinics.
