Tsunami alert for northeastern Japan lifted

TOKYO - Japan lifted a tsunami alert shortly after a strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 hit Miyagi Prefecture and its vicinity in northeastern Japan on Monday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
