Egyptian caretaker prime minister arrives in Khartoum

KHARTOUM - Egyptian caretaker Prime Minister Essam Sharaf on Sunday arrived in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum for a two-day visit during which he is to meet senior Sudanese government officials and visit south Sudan.

Sudanese officials headed by Sudanese Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha are scheduled to hold talks Sunday with the Egyptian delegation headed by Sharaf at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum.

They will discuss cooperation projects in the fields of industry, petroleum, natural gas, transport, agriculture, animal and fish resources, participation in fairs and international markets, communications, pharmaceutical industry and how to make maximum utilization of the River Nile to facilitate trade and transport between the two countries.

The two sides are expected to sign agreements on the establishment of electricity generating stations, roads and hospitals, as well as on the efforts to complete Sudan's Jonglei canal project.

Sharaf is also scheduled to meet heads and representatives of some Sudanese political parties, including the ruling National Congress Party, the Unionist Party, the Umma Party.

He will meet Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir before heading to Juba in south Sudan to meet President of southern Sudan government Salva Kiir Mayardit and members of his government.
