The publication of a complete translation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel, Love in the Time of Cholera, in Chinese, is stirring a revival in Spanish literature.
It is the first authorized version of the novel on the mainland, and follows up on the authorized version of A Hundred Years of Solitude, released in 2011, by Thinkingdom group.
Hailed as the greatest love novel ever by the New York Times, the book was written by Garcia Marquez decades after he won the Nobel Prize.
Chinese writer Yu Hua admits he was influenced by Garcia Marquez in his early career, and says from a writer's point of view, Love in the Time of Cholera is worthier reading, for it tells nothing unusual like that in A Hundred Years of Solitude, but everyday stories of love among ordinary people.
