Australian duo
Agnes Kain, the female-male duo of Chanelle Afford and Stefan Simunic, bring their multi-instrument show from Sydney to start their 2012 China tour soon, with a live show in Shanghai on May 5. The pair served up modest indie pop tunes with a folky bent on their 2007 debut album, Keep Walking or I'll Kill You. Recorded in their spare room, it features Afford's slightly quavering, high vocals, with frequent use of melodica, piano and glockenspiel differentiating it from the standard indie guitar rock base.
3-4:30 pm, May 5. Mao Livehouse, 3/F, 308 Jianguo Zhonglu. 021-6445-0086
Language of icons
Artist Xu Bing will present his exhibition Book from the Ground which includes installation, files and animation. The idea comes from a novel with the same name written by Xu, which tells a story by using a "language of icons" that he has been collecting and organizing over the years. The exhibition is his exploration into the modern hieroglyph.
10 am-5 pm, April 21-May 29. Shanghai Gallery of Art, 3/F, 3 Zhongshan Dongyi Lu. 021-6321-5757
