JAKARTA - Most foreigners traveling on business to Indonesia come from neighboring Singapore and Malaysia, both of which are most popular destinations for Indonesian business travelers, according to a survey.

The survey released by hotel operator Accor and independent consulting firm Cimigo Ltd was based on the Asia Pacific Business Traveler Research 2011 report, conducted from June 28 to July 7, involving 10,437 respondents who made business trips in the Asia- Pacific region in the first half of the year from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Singapore, New Zealand and Thailand.

The report, with 981 Indonesians respondents, was released on Tuesday and said that only 16 percent of respondents, about 1,600 people, visited Indonesia.

It said that almost 40 percent of the respondents visiting Indonesia came from Singapore and 39 percent came from Malaysia.

Evan Lewis, Accor Asia Pacific's vice president for communications and the coordinator of the survey, said that the dominant position of Singaporeans and Malaysians on the list of business travelers to Indonesia could be attributed to the three nations' proximity.

The survey also indicated that the two most popular destinations for Indonesian business travelers were Singapore and Malaysia.

Nevertheless, the most popular destinations for business travelers from Singapore were Malaysia and Thailand.

The survey did not report the most popular destinations for Malaysian respondents.

According to Lewis, business travelers coming to Indonesia typically came from the manufacturing, banking, finance, mining and service sectors.
