NEW YORK - World No. 1 Novak Djokovic outlasted Roger Federer in three sets to lift the Indian Wells ATP title on Sunday.
It's the fourth time for the Serb to win at the BNP Paribas Open, making him the tying most prolific player here along with his final opponent Federer, who also has four trophies in the desert.
Djokovic outplayed Federer in 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2 as the world's top two men's players met for the 38th time, second-most among rivalries in the Open era.
In the head-to-head clash, Federer leads the series 20-18 and had won three of their last four meetings in tournament finals.
The Swiss committed 43 unforced errors to Djokovic's 35 in the match and he also had more double faults of four to Djokovic's two. The Serb won the last four games of the match to wrap up the victory.
In the women's final match-up, Simona Halep beat Jelena Jankovic 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 to win the WTA title, giving the Romanian the biggest title of her career and a WTA Tour-leading third tournament victory of the year.
