HO CHI MINH CITY - Vietnam's top tennis player, Ly Hoang Nam, aimed to compete in the junior championship of the upcoming French Open, the second Grand Slam of the year, the Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF) said on Monday.
The national No. 1 player, born in 1997, who remains at the 70th position in the world junior rankings with 336.88 points, is under hard training in order to compete in international tournaments to collect more points for a ticket to the clay court tournament at Roland Garros.
Nam was scheduled to take part in the Chang Thailand ITF, on March 2-7 in Nonthaburi, and the Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup (I) Junior Tennis Championships, on March 17-23 in Malaysia, with a goal of advancing to at least the semi-final rounds in both events, said the VTF.
The French Open is scheduled to begin on May 24 in Paris. Earlier, Nam earned his second round slot in the junior Australian Open, according to VTF.
