Those unsung sports heroes who play big roles in the shadow of the arena now have their own stage to shine on as the National Sport Skills competition was launched this week.
The two-category contest, which features lifeguard skills and protection from injury, will take place from Nov 27 to 30 at the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center) in Beijing.
Organized by the General Administration of Sports of China, the national qualification trials attracted 2,295 specialists representing 27 provinces and regions in April. Of these, 221 participants have qualified for the final to be held at the Water Cube.
Each category will see finalists compete in 10 areas, including theories and practical skills, to fight for the eventual title and the honor of being named National Specialist.
“The competition has provided a platform for experts working behind the scenes in the two fields to show their skills while exchanging experience,” said Jin Huasheng, director of the human resource department of the GASC.
