The Guangzhou Super Football Club, a non-profit organization consisting of retired soccer players, coaches and referees, was launched on Nov 11 at the landmark Yuexiushan Stadium.

The club, based in the capital city of Guangdong province, will launch a series of charity activities to promote soccer culture in schools and residential communities, according to Peng Weiguo, a club member and retired Chinese national team player.

"The goal of establishing the club is to develop more soccer talents by getting more kids to play the game," said Peng.

According to Peng, the club will also launch games for retired Chinese soccer players.

Peng was a key player of the former Guangzhou Apollo Football Club, one of the first domestic professional clubs.

After claiming second place in last year's tournament featuring retired professional league players of the 1990s, Peng will lead the old Guangzhou team to compete in the tournament's second session scheduled to open on Nov 16 in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.

This year's tournament will be competed by eight teams from Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan and Tianjin.
