Singapore wins int'l yacht race in S China

NANNING, South China - Singapore claimed the championship of the 2013 Liuzhou International Inland River Yacht Race here in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Monday.
In front of thousands of fans lining along the Liujiang River, Singapore emerged out of 12 teams in the final and was crowned with a fierce performance and amazing average scores on the 35-km-long lane.
Initiated in 2011, the annual race is an effort to boost Liuzhou's international influence as well as its tourism.
A total of 26 domestic and foreign teams took part in this year's five-day competition, which employed the J80 yachts for the participants.
J80 yacht is typically 8 meters long, with a capacity of holding about five people, a perfect sailboat in inland rivers.
