Chinese pair wins gold in men's 3m synchro springboard

BARCELONA, Spain - Chinese pair of divers Qin Kai and He Chong won on Tuesday the gold medal in the men's 3-meter synchronized springboard discipline at the Piscines de Montjuic in the 15th FINA World Championships.
Qin and He had a total of 448.86 points, followed by Russia's Ilya Zakharov and Evgeny Kuznetsov who scored 428.01 points for the silver medal. Mexico's divers Jahir Ocampo and Rommel Pacheco took the bronze by 422.79.
Qin/He finished first in the preliminary round on Tuesday morning. Qin won three gold medals at the World Championships in Shanghai 2011, in Rome 2009 and in Melbourne 2007.
He is replacing Chinese diver Luo Yutong, with whom Qin won in Shanghai 2011.
China has won this event at every world championships since the discipline was introduced in 1998 and after Qin and He success, the country has taken five gold medals in diving in four days of competition.
The Piscines de Montjuic were built for 1992 Olympic Games. They host diving competition at Barcelona Worlds, where a total of 252 divers are competing.
