Top seed Xu Xin reaches second round in Paris tournament

PARIS - Top seed Xu Xin of China reached the second round with a straight-set victory over Steffen Mengel of Germany at the World Table Tennis Championships here on Wendesday.
Xu, last year's runner-up in the World Cup at Liverpool, had little trouble to beat the the 163rd-ranked Mengel 11-5, 11-8, 11-2, 11-8.
The second-ranked Xu, bidding to win his first title at major world tournament, will next take on Sweden's Par Gerell, who eliminated Lin Ju of Chinese Taipei.
