DENVER - Police say a 27-year-old man was critically injured when he fell from a stairwell leading to the center field seats at the Colorado Rockies' Coors Field during the opener of a doubleheader Tuesday.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said the man was hospitalized in a critical condition following a fall of approximately 6 meters onto concrete during the seventh inning.
He said he didn't have the name of the fan and that an investigation was under way.
More than two hours later, there was a large water spot where blood at the bottom of the stairwell had been hosed down and cleaned.
Rockies spokesman Jay Alves cited federal privacy law in declining to give details of the accident, saying only, "We're aware of the injury in the outfield. He was transported to a local hospital."
