Schalke crush Duisburg 5-0 to lift German Cup

BERLIN - Bundesliga team Schalke sealed a lop- sided victory against second division team Duisburg within the first half thanks to terrific assists by striker mate Jefferson Farfan to lift German Cup, the first title after nine years on Sunday in front of 75,708 spectators at Berlin Olympia stadium.

The "Koeningsblauen" caught the "Zebras" on the hop when youngster midfielder Julian Draxler opened the scoring 18 minutes into the match with a magnificent hammer from penalty line into top right owing a through ball by striker mate Jefferson Farfan. Only four minutes later Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar doubled the lead when he utilized the next assist by Farfan.

Duisburg were absolutely over challenged and harmless so that Schalke defender Benedikt Hoewedes nodded the 3-0 lead minutes before break after a Farfan corner. Schalke midfielder Jose Manuel Jurado and striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar wrapped the 5-0 lead within the 70th minute and the fifth German Cup after 1937, 1972, 2001 and 2002.

Schalke finish the season positively with the German Cup even if they staged a disastrous season 2010/2011 with a painful 14th position.
