BEIJING - The Organizing Committee for the 2012 Asian Beach Games, to be held in east China's Shandong province, launched a campaign to solicit designs for the torch and medals on Tuesday.
"We've decided to invite top art and design institutes as well as experts to register interest in creating what will be become two of the key visual icons of the Asian Beach Games, as designing the torch and medals is a highly specialized job," Gao Bo, an official at the 2012 Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee, told reporters.

The winning work can be any shape but must reflect the unique nature, theme, culture and spirit of the 2012 Asian Beach Games and host city Haiyang, said Gao.
Also on Tuesday, the organizers kicked off a competition for volunteers' logo design and volunteers' slogan, which is open to all from home and abroad.
Submission forms and design proposals must be received June 30, and the winning designers will receive a certain amount of financial reward. Design criteria, submission details and graphic standards information can be found online at www.haiyang2012.com.
The 2012 Asian Beach Games will be the largest multi-sport event held in Haiyang, a coastal city in Shandong province. More than 2,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions are expected to compete in 12 sports from June 16 to 22, 2012.
