Liu Xiang finishes third at Karlsruhe Indoors

KARLSRUHE, Germany - Former Olympic champion Liu Xiang finished third again in the 60m indoor hurdles at the Karlsruhe Indoors event in his second stop in Europe's return.

28-year-old American David Oliver won in a time of 7.40 seconds with China's Liu finishing in 7.55 seconds. France's Dimitri Bascou was second in 7.53, slightly ahead of Liu.

On Friday, the 110m hurdles record holder Liu Xiang raced into third in the 60m hurdles at the Dusseldorf indoor meet, his first European appearance in three years.

The 27-year-old Chinese hurdler timed 7.60 seconds, 0.18 off his personal best of 7.42 seconds set in February 2007.

Lerone Clarke of Jamaica was fastest in the 60 sprint, finishing in 6.52 seconds, ahead of Marc Burns from Trinidad and Tobago in 6.56 and Italy's Emanuele di Gregorio in 6.63. Kim Collins ran 6.50 in qualifying.

Kellie Wells came top in the women's 60 hurdles in the absence of world indoor champion Lolo Jones with a time of 7.82 seconds, ahead of Norway's Christina Vukicevic in 7.90 and Jamaican Vonette Dixon in 7.98.

Kenya's Mercy Njoroge finished first at 3,000 meters in 8 minutes, 42.75 seconds, ahead of Poland's Sylwia Ejdys and Sara Moreira of Portugal.

German David Gollnow won the 400m in 47.29 seconds, ahead of Roman Smirnow of Russia and another German, Rouven Christ, in third.

Kenya's Bethwel Birgen grabbed the 1,500m victory in 3:35.38, while compatriot Gideon Gathimba won the 3,000 in 7:41.77.
