A Bite of China, a food documentary broadcast on China Central Television, has cooked up a following of supporters following its success in the 10:30 pm slot.
The seven episode show, from May 14 to 22, uncovers the origin of dishes – how they are made, and where the ingredients come from. By showcasing the entire food-making process, it presents a holistic symbiotic relationship between the natural environment and people, elaborating on the cultural and societal changes that make Chinese dishes what they are today.
The slide below shows a variety of Chinese fermented delicacies, such as fermented bean curd, yellow wine and pickled vegetables. To convert simple materials into beautiful food and drink requires the right timing and conditions. This is how eating is believed to inspire great wisdom.
