Good company in return

Meng Peijie rubs Liu Fangying's body at a ward in a hospital in Linfen, North China's Shanxi province, June 14, 2011. Meng's father died in a road accident in 1996, leaving distress to the family. Meng's mother, who was in grave financial trouble, had to give up the little Meng to Liu Fanying, who adopted the child even though she was also barely getting by herself. In 1999, when Meng was 8 years old, Liu became paralyzed and was dumped by her husband. Meng then began tending to Liu full time. In 2009, Meng was admitted to Shanxi Normal University, a place hundreds of miles from her home. She settled down with Liu in a rented house near the college and continued to care for her.
