The changes brought about by President Xi Jinping in China are highly encouraging. His campaign to eliminate corruption will do a lot to restore people's trust in the government. I was inspired by his recent speech on reinforcing socialist values in China.
In fact, I'm using his speech as a learning resource for English in my classes in Zhengzhou, Henan province. (A big thanks to China Daily for providing the English translation of his speech.)
Overall, I'm encouraged by what I see in China. Admittedly, it is easy to see the problems when you come here with "fresh eyes", especially "fresh Western eyes". You can see a lot of problems in the stark differences between Western and Eastern societies. But I think we should focus on the progress that is being made. My hopes for and beliefs in China are high.
Many problems remain, and it might take many years for China to become a developed country. But I believe that Xi will continue to achieve great success in leading China in the direction that it needs to go.
