The government of Dongguan, Guangdong province published 15 draft regulations online for public opinion, but they got a poor response, suggesting public apathy, said a column on Beijing News (excerpts below).
In contrast, the report about this sparked hundreds of comments. Most of the comments attributed the poor response to lack of trust in the local government.
One response said that "public opinion is never taken into consideration in decision-making".
The case in Dongguan is not rare. When people realize that their opinions are totally ignored, they will refuse to play the game anymore.
The Dongguan government needs to improve services, and all the local governments need to learn a lesson from their colleagues in Dongguan.
