The government should avoid too much interference in the market, said an article in Guangzhou Daily (excerpts below).
A probe by the audit authority exposed a fraud carried out by some companies to falsely claim government funds for efficient productivity.
On top of this, some local governments depended on backward inefficient industries for economic growth and revenue. They were also polluting the environment.
These situations must stop. Industries that are unable to produce their goods at a profit and cleanly must be tackled.
Upgrading the industrial structure should be a natural result of economic development.
The global economic crisis and China's environmental crisis mean measures must be taken to boost efficiency.
The government should create a fair market environment to promote competition, rather than interfering in the market with taxpayers' money.
