China will defend world peace and share the benefits of an environment of peaceful development with any country that is willing to defend world peace together with it, says an editorial in People's Daily. Excerpts:

Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his keynote speech at the Boao Forum for Asia that the Earth village is a stage for cooperation but not competition, and the international community should not allow some countries to create trouble in the world for their own selfish purposes. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said later that China will not allow some countries to make trouble on its doorstep.

Obviously, they were alluding that the United States and its allies of Japan and the Philippines are the countries that displease them. Xi sent a clear message to the world that China will not threaten the world, and China will firmly defend world peace.

Asia contributes 50 percent of global economic growth and will continue to be an important economic engine to boost global recovery in the future. Most Asian countries face the urgent task of transforming their growth models and upgrading their industrial structures. That is necessary to maintain Asia's stability and peace.

Xi stresses China's resolve to safeguard a stable and peaceful environment for its future development. This is also beneficial to its neighbors. Other Asian countries should value China's contribution to regional peace and stability, which is in their interests. Asian countries should also be aware of the scheme of the US and its allies. They would like to cause trouble in East Asia to contain China's rise. This trouble will necessarily affect the development of all of East Asia.

If so, the global economic recovery will be delayed, and the uncertainty and instability in Asia will finally cast a negative influence on the US and other developed countries. In this era of globalization, the US should cooperate with China and the other merging economies and contribute more to global governance. The time and conditions for global hegemony have gone.

The US should match its deeds with its words and start seriously building a new model of relations among big countries with China.
