Rice noodles in a rich, spicy soup with chicken, prawn or fish? That's laksa, and a recipe for delight in Peranakan cuisine, which marries food and spice traditions of Chinese and Malay cuisines. New World Beijing Hotel has brought in a Malaysian chef to prepare the country's traditional cuisine at the hotel's Tian Tan kitchen through Aug 31. Look for authentic dishes such as murtabak, otak-otak, nasi lemak, Nyonya curry chicken and a range of noodles, from saucy sweet char kueh teow to aromatic Penang prawn mee and Penang assam laksa. They are part of the restaurant buffet, priced at 118 yuan ($17.71) at lunch daily, 148 yuan at dinner on weekdays and 158 yuan at dinner Saturday and Sunday.
