Beijing will hold its unique New Year countdown by lighting a gigantic ball at the China Millennium Monument, joining the worldwide New Year countdowns representing one of the 24 time zones.
Dubbed "Light of Beijing", the lighting ceremony will begin at 11:30 pm on New Year's Eve at the south square of China Millennium Monument with light colors changing.
As soon as the New Year comes, the light will turn white and project to the sky as a gigantic pillar of light. The ceremony will last until 12:30 am and will be broadcast alive.
