Tsinghua University graduate Jiao Sanniu caused a stir on the Internet around the Spring Festival in January. The 23-year-old was elected as a county-level official in Wuwei, Gansu province, just six months after he graduated from university.
Many people questioned if Jiao was qualified for the position and whether there was corruption involved in his election.
Writer He Jianming set off for Wuwei in early April. He talked with villagers, government officials and Jiao Sanniu, and presents his observations in The Sanniu Incident, published by The Writers Publishing House.
