The Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS), under the Chinese Medical Association, plans to open 63 model centers across the mainland to promote standardized diabetes treatment.
The current diabetes treatment still differs from clinical guidelines, says Ji Linong, director of the CDS. Major concerns include poor complication control and inadequate medical tests as well as a low rate of diagnosis and treatment.
The number of Chinese diabetics nearly doubled over the past decade, with 9.7 percent of the country's 1.3 billion people suffering from the disease, Ji says.
