Beijing fashionistas attending the annual Fashion Week this year were rewarded with a dazzling show by German designer Marc Cain. Gan Tian looks back in wonder.
Hong Kong actress Miriam Yeung strolled down the catwalk, struck a pose and created the buzz. She was wearing a black leather skirt by Marc Cain, the German fashion house. This was a day before China International Fashion Week ended, and it made a brilliant finale to a successful showing.
Fashion writers enthusiastically hailed the show, applauding it as the "best in China Fashion Week history".
All eyes were on Yeung, and the sassy wide leather belt around her waist attracted a lot of attention.
Although Marc Cain launched its accessory line only last year, it has become a huge hit. The celebrities loved it, and Hollywood icon Sophia Loren carried a Marc Cain bag made of ostrich feathers when she attended the 10th anniversary party of fashion magazine Gala.
Belts are definitely the focus this year. In addition to the leather classic around Yeung's waist, there were belts made of silk, elastic and lace.
Creative director Karin Veit, who also made her first visit to Beijing especially for the show, said animal prints will again be in vogue this year. "We have done zebra, snake and leopard. They are very successful in the market, and we are well-known for these specially made animal prints," Veit says.
Last year, when Marc Cain made its debut in Beijing, Hong Kong actress Kelly Chen was showcasing a leopard-skin skirt. This year, the same print is appearing on jackets, pants and skirts.
"We manufacture our own prints. We do finishing, washing, dying and printing, and finally the cutting and sewing all by ourselves in Romania and other European countries. The engineering and designing is done in Germany, so it's a wholly European product."
