You may not see Caipirinha on a drink menu in Beijing very often. Simply made with Cachaça, sugar and lime, Caipirinha is considered the national cocktail of Brazil.
Cachaça, distilled from straight cane juice, is the most common alcoholic beverage in Brazil, and a bit sharper than rum, which is sugarcane derived.
Summer is the best time to enjoy a tart and sweet icy Caipirinha, especially when the Olympic Games put the world's spotlight on Rio.
Let's learn how to make Brazil's national cocktail.
Caipirinha
Ingredients (for one serve):
Half a lime, cut into wedges
2 oz Cachaça
Brown sugar, 1 cube
Crushed ice
Directions:
Cut the lime into wedges, and muddle the wedges in a shaker with brown sugar. Add Cachaça and top it with ice. Stir and pour the mixture into a rock glass. Garnish it with a slice of lime and serve.
