Mitchell says Kilikanoon, proclaimed "2013 Australian Winery of the Year" by James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, has two great treasures: terrior and old vines.
In Clare Valley, the cold winters, hot dry summers, and high altitude provide the best microclimate and geological profile for riesling, shiraz, cabernet and grenache, he said.
At the wine-tasting event, the 2005 Attunga 1865 Shiraz was a favorite among many reviewers.
"The 2005 season was a good one for Shiraz in Clare Valley; predominantly dry during the ripening period with substantial rain in early January that sustained these old vineyards until complete flavor ripeness in mid March," noted Mitchell.
Kilikannon Oracle Shiraz 2012 was another top choice for this week's tasters in Beijing.
Since 1997, Kilikanoon has released an Oracle Shiraz every year except in 2011.
The 2012 vintage is brick-red, with youthful crimson hues. It tastes like fresh berries and cheery plums, with a truly balanced palate.
Sun Jun, general manger of the Joyvio wine business, said that as the leading company in modern agriculture and food industries under the Legend group, Joyvio cooperates with five renowned wineries around the world including Kilikanoon, as exclusive importer to bring the best affordable foreign wines to Chinese people.
