Twenty-one primary students become sick after eating at a school cafeteria in northwest China's Shaanxi province on Thursday, local authorities said Friday.
Students at the Baishuyuan Primary School in the Yaozhou district of the city of Tongchuan experienced stomachaches and nausea after eating lunch at the school's cafeteria on Thursday, according to a statement from district government.
Samples of the food have been sent to the local health department for testing.
Another 113 students and teachers who ate the same food as the sickened children did not exhibit symptoms.
Fourteen of the sickened children are being treated at a local hospital. All are in stable condition.
The school's principal has been suspended from his post in relation to the incident. A further investigation into the incident is under way.
