According to a report published by ctrip.com and tuniu.com in 2016, Chinese tourists, stated as big-spending shoppers and noisy picture-taking hordes, have been trying to change their image while abroad, by acting like real travelers and being more willing to explore.
The report also stated Chinese travelers remained price-conscious, and had an aim of spending money on the right items and activities. Chinese tourists also have preferred immersing themselves in tranquil small towns, while attending nearby festivals and sampling local cuisines.
